Describe your business (product, service, quirky things you want to include, etc.)
They call me the Strong Copy Quarterback. I call the plays for writing powerful press releases, blog posts, brochures, and website content for sports and fitness-related companies.

My mission is to help pro athletes and fitness professionals achieve a greater level of success in their entrepreneurial endeavors with my writing expertise and creative turn of mind.
Who is your customer?
Current and retired pro athletes, fitness professionals, executive/personal coaches, health/wellness companies, website developers, graphic artists,
How did you come up with the idea for your business?
It's something I've done with joy for past employers, for my own business start-ups, and for friends. I want to serve and improve the businesses of others while enjoying the benefits of being a lifestyle entrepreneur.
How long have you been in business?
I officially opened Winning Proof's world headquarters in July 2008.
What's been your greatest moment so far? (i.e. Signing your first client, getting the big order, some great PR?)
My greatest moments revolve around planning and building the business idea, then growing it in small, bite-size, practical steps.

My other great moments are developing great rapport with my first clients and watching the power of referrals working.
What was your biggest mistake?
Not starting sooner.
What was your smartest move?
Starting it all with $32.00 at www.godaddy.com and checking out all the competition to see what they offer and how they offer it. Also, networking with acquaintances and friends has proved beneficial in many ways.
What are your business plans? (i.e. Expansion, franchising, selling for a gazillion dollars?)
I'd like to create a business that I can solely operate while outsourcing less desirable tasks like accounting and web/graphic design.
Are you a member of any OC-based associations, networking groups, etc?
Not necessarily OC-based, however, I am on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Plaxo. I'm a member of Personal Chef Association, Sports Executive Association, Pro Player Connect, and National Association of African-American Athletes.
Are you willing to answer questions about your business from other small business owners?
Yes

The Blitz

A blitz is an aggressive play. It’s a frontal attack in action against a quarterback and it dictates the tempo of the play. A blitz forces a quarterback to make a swift decision under pressure. The blitz forces adjustments.

Time For A Time-Out

A time-out in football is a break in the action by either team or an official. It gives both teams a few seconds to gather themselves and strategize their next plan of attack. It can be prompted by the officials to give them time to analyze a play and make a determination. It gives the fans a lull in their adrenaline rushes.

A team can prepare for time-outs by orchestrating plays that gain large chunks of yardage. A team can also conserve their time-outs by simply moving the ball down the field… Continue

Cocky vs Confidence

There is a big difference between being cocky and having confidence.

Cocky is bold, brash, and brazen along with sassy and saucy. There is self-confidence well hidden under the behavior but it manifests itself rudely most of the time.

Self-confidence is confidence in oneself and in one's powers and abilities. It's being secure and having assurance in oneself. Self-confidence is sexy. Self-confidence is classy.

When we look at many athletes, we only see their cocky side; their swagger, the sly… Continue

5 1/2 Steps for ReGrouping After A Setback

Usually my blog posts have a football theme but I am going to deviate from that today. This week I experienced a client setback which resulted in losing that client. Not an easy thing to admit. My client sent me an email, basically demoralizing my work and effort, and then pitting me against a competitor with a much greater base of knowledge and experience. It was like a Pinto being pitted against a Lamborghini.

Don't get me wrong...I don't want to stay a Pinto, but I'm just beginning my solopr… Continue

It Takes Guts

We've all heard the cliches, "spill your guts" or "that took a lot of guts" or even the age-old response of kids as they watch a scary movie, "Gross, that guy's guts were laying all over the street!"

I was thinking this morning about guts. Not the gory kind, the internal strength kind. I was thinking about football coaches who call the "gutsy" plays. I thought about the pro players who execute those plays with the determination of a bull in a ring staring down a man waving a red cape. I admit,… Continue
