What is the name of your business?
Truth Be Told Polygraph
What is your website URL?
http://www.tbtpolygraph.com
Where is your business based?
1033 East Imperial Hwy. Suite E-10 # D Brea, CA. Associate offices in Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County...we are growing!
What is your name? (We prefer your full first and last name but you can use either, or even a nick-name.)
Yolanda Gellis
Describe your business (product, service, quirky things you want to include, etc.)
I conduct polygraph examinations to suit your law enforcement, personal, legal, or civil matters. Types of testing include law enforcement and fire-fighter pre-employment testing, EPPA compliant employee testing, matters of infidelity, criminal matters, Immigraton and Political Asylum, statement validation, and Post-conviction sex offender testing to name a few. Standards of testing are strictly adhered to in order to ensure a quality exam.

I am a Certified I-CARE (Immigration-Credibility Assessment Registered Examiner). I validate statements of alleged persecution by those seeking Asylum in the United States.
Who is your customer?
County and Municipal Governments, law enforcement agengies, attorneys, therapists and treatment providers, business owners, victims of persecution seeking political asylum, citizens seeking statement validation, spouses who have reached an impasse in communication.
How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have 18 years law enforcement experience. As a Police Officer, I was proud of my career. After retiring, I decided I wanted to still have a hand in "finding the truth", and polygraph was it.
How long have you been in business?
I started my Law Enforcement career in 1991 until I retired in 2008. As a civilian, sworn officer, and through the present date, I've held positions such as jailer, dispatcher, patrol officer, training coordinator, DARE officer, Corporal, and Polygraph Examiner. Since 1991, I've worked for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, City of South Gate Police Department, City of Downey Police Department, and County of Riverside Human Resources Department, providing pre-employment polygraphs for Deputy Sheriff Trainees. I instruct Background Investigators in the use of the polygraph in Background Investigations for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department as a Part-Time Instructor through Riverside Community College. I have assisted in providing Post-Conviction Sex Offender testing for Orange County Probation. My goal is to build my business into a nationally known polygraph business where people know I, and my associates will follow all ethical rules, and not knowingly violate standards of best practices.

I am a Certified Forensic Law Enforcement Polygraph Examiner with the American Association of Police Polygraphists and a Certified Examiner through the California Associatin of Polygraph Examiners. I am also certified to conduct post-conviction sex offender testing and Immigration and Political Asylum polygraph testing.

I am a Certified California POST Instructor authorized to teach law enforcement the use of the polygraph.
What's been your greatest moment so far? (i.e. Signing your first client, getting the big order, some great PR?)
Working for law enforcement.
What was your biggest mistake?
Not starting my business sooner. There is a desperate need for qualified, certified and ethical examiners in the State of California. We are not a licensed state, therefore anyone may purchase a polygraph instrument and call themselves an Examiner. Make sure you check the credentials of those seeking to secure you as a client. Many profess to be professionals, then disappoint by providing sub-standard polygraphs that either short change the client, or provide opinons based on ill-prepared polygraphs that violate standards of testing. Don't trust your issue to someone who doesn't care to follow the rules! Your personal or legal matter depends on it!
What was your smartest move?
My smartest move has been sticking to professional standards others simply ignore. It's very easy to be misled by those seeking to take your money who don't really care about your situation. Seek an Examiner who isn't under-handed, and who doesn't knowingly violate published policies to suit their lack of ethics. Choose a true professional who creates his or her own unique ideas and won't take credit for others' work.
What are your business plans? (i.e. Expansion, franchising, selling for a gazillion dollars?)
To continue building a client base with those in law enforcement, attorneys, therapists, treatment providers, or anyone else looking for statement validation.
Are you a member of any OC-based associations, networking groups, etc?
I belong to the La Habra and Brea Chambers of Commerce, Merchant Circle, OC Metro Business, the Heart Link Network, the American Polygraph Association, National Polygraph Association, California Association of Polygraph Examiners and the American Association of Police Polygraphists. I also belong to the Orange County Women Lawyers Association and the Newport Harbor Bar Association.
Are you willing to answer questions about your business from other small business owners?
Yes

Do you know where your Spouse will be on Valentine's Day?

Was your spouse really working on Valentine's Day?

Polygraph literally means "many writings." Polygraph examiners use analog or computerized polygraph instruments to record the physiological data from at least three systems in the human body. A typical polygraph examination will include: (1) A pre-test where the examiner will complete required paperwork, discuss the issue at hand with the examinee, and familiarize the examinee with the testing procedure. All questions are revie

Matters of Infidelity: Polygraph Use in Breaking the Cycle of Denial

Today, more than ever, polygraph is used as a tool in the treatment of those seeking to break “cycles of denial” in infidelity and/or domestic violence cases. Some treatment providers refuse to offer treatment to potential clients unless the client really wants help. The polygraph, when used as a tool in treatment environments, and in the pursuit of truth when spouses have lost faith in their spouse, can be an intricate tool in assisting in breaking through these denials. The purpose of this inf… Continue

DANGERS OF HIRING UNETHICAL POLYGRAPH EXAMINERS

If you have considered hiring a polygraph examiner, there are issues you should investigate prior to making an informed decision. This blog will attempt to help you differentiate between honest and hard working examiners, and greedy, inept charlatans.

Polygraph Examiners are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with moral and ethical standards of policy. Unfortunately, greed will cause those who were at one time honest examiners, to change into sloppy, careless, and greedy peop… Continue

EMPLOYEE THEFT POLYGRAPH TESTING

On December 27, 1988, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act became law. This federal law established guidelines for polygraph testing and imposed restrictions on most private employers.

This legislation only affects commercial businesses. Local, State and Federal government agencies (such as police departments) are not affected by the law, nor are public agencies, such as a school system or correctional institution. In other words, only certain governmental agencies and select private industry… Continue

Hi Yolanda,

I would be happy to recipricate referrals with you regarding couples with infidelity. I usually work with couples who have recently found out about an indiscretion or with couples who suspect the other has cheated. I could definitely see the benefit of recommending a couple to you to get more confirmation or to support their innocence. I will be sending you the business cards you requested and ask that you do the same. Thank you for contacting me. Elisa Dombrowski, LMFT 949-225-7464
